Portuguese striker Joao Teixeira stood out to help Shanghai Shenhua hold Shanghai Port 1-1 in the Chinese Super League on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, Shanghai Port broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Shenhua defender Ibrahim Amadou and Port forward Wu Lei strived for a header following a corner. The ball bounced into the goalmouth, gifting Port striker Gustavo an easy goal.
Shenhua then made some substitutions. In the 89th minute, Teixeira chested a cross and volleyed in the equaliser.
In the 95th minute, Shenhua substitute Wang Haijian thought he had won it when he smashed in a long-distance volley. However, the goal was chalked off after a VAR check as Yu Hanchao was offside.
"It is a pity that we have a draw at the end. We had an opportunity to win with the final goal," said Teixeira.
Shenhua head coach Leonid Slutsky said his feeling was "complex" after the decisive goal was ruled out, but he showed compliments to Teixeira as he performed well as the core player.
With the draw, Shenhua stays top of the CSL table, while Port ranks third.
